He released his inaugural mixtape, “Room for Improvement,” in February 2005, distributing it through his website and his official MySpace page. He sold over 6,000 copies directly. The following year, he launched his second mixtape, “Comeback Season,” through his newly founded label, October’s Very Own (also known as OVO Records). This mixtape included an underground hit single titled “Replacement Girl,” which became notable as the first music video from an unsigned Canadian rapper to be shown on BET. Jas Prince, a Houston-based producer and founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, heard the single and forwarded it to Lil Wayne. Contrary to what might be presumed, Drake had not yet joined Wayne’s record label at this stage. In 2009, he released a third mixtape titled “So Far Gone.” This mixtape was made available as a free download on his OVO website and featured collaborations with Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Trey Songz, Omarion, and Bun B. After achieving 2000 downloads within its initial hour, the mixtape went on to be certified Gold by the RIAA and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. YOLO Estate

Even though Drake was born in Canada, he made Hidden Hills, California, his home starting in 2012 when he purchased a lavish mansion for $7.7 million in cash from the former owner of Los Angeles’ Saddle Ranch Bar. Known as the YOLO Estate, the property boasts various residences, including a main house that spans 12,000 square feet and a 2,000-square-foot party house. The estate is equipped with equestrian stables, a 25-person movie theater, a full-sized basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and one of Southern California’s largest privately owned swimming pools. The pool, resembling a lagoon and encircling the house, features multiple waterfalls, a swim-up bar, an 80-foot water slide, and a grotto reminiscent of the Playboy mansion.

In a Rolling Stone interview, Drake shared that he had admired this mansion for years after discovering it while Googling “craziest residential swimming pools.” Motivated by a photo of the pool that served as the background on his computer, he waited for the right opportunity. Originally listed for $27 million in 2009, the house became available at a drastically reduced price due to the previous owner’s financial difficulties, allowing Drake to acquire it for $7.7 million in 2012.

In 2015, he augmented his property by acquiring the adjacent 1.6-acre estate for $2.8 million. The property was later further extended in 2018.

Once again, he invested $4.5 million in yet another neighboring property. Now, his private estate spans 6.7 acres of adjacent land at the end of a cul-de-sac, amounting to $15 million solely in real estate acquisitions.

In March 2022, Drake listed the YOLO Estate for $22.7 million. Additionally, buyers had the opportunity to purchase the primary mansion for $14.8 million.

In April 2022, NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford acquired two of the three estates that previously constituted the YOLO Estate for $11 million, which was $3.6 million above the asking price. Notably, Matthew’s acquisitions did not include the central “YOLO” mansion. Later, in July 2022, a buyer purchased the remaining third parcel for $12 million.

Toronto Mansion

Back in 2016, Drake invested $6.7 million to purchase a plot of land in The Bridle Path, a suburban region in Toronto. Subsequently, he constructed a magnificent 50,000-square-foot mansion on the two-acre lot, which includes a 10-car garage, an NBA regulation basketball court, a gym, an awards room, and a plethora of other amenities. The master bedroom alone spans 3,200 square feet.

Additionally, he owns a condo located in downtown Toronto.

$90 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

On March 8, 2022, it was reported that Drake finalized a deal to acquire British singer Robbie Williams’ 20-acre mansion in Beverly Hills. The price for this off-market transaction? $75 million. The home was previously owned by Armand Marciano, co-founder of the Guess? clothing brand. Drake purchased the estate through a corporate entity named 11Kip, LLC, securing a mortgage of $52.5 million from Bank of America, which means he made a cash down payment of $22.5 million, representing exactly 30%.

300+ Acre Texas Estate

In October 2023, Drake purchased a 313-acre property once known as The Inn at Dos Brisas, now referred to as Dos Brisas Ranch, for $15 million. Originally, in the early 2000s, this estate served as a private retreat for a rich family, who transitioned it into a resort in 2004. During its peak, The Inn at Dos Brisas achieved significant acclaim and popularity.

Unfortunately, like many hospitality ventures, The Inn faced severe challenges due to COVID-19 and permanently closed its doors in 2022. In April 2022, the estate was listed for $17.5 million, with its price reduced to $15 million by May 2023. Air Drake Private Jet

In May 2019, Drake shared a video on Instagram showcasing his recently acquired Boeing 767 private jet, which he has named (and customized) “Air Drake.” According to the video, Drake takes pride in owning the jet outright, declaring that it is solely his with “no rental, no timeshare, no co-owners.”
