Born Albert Kreischer Jr. on November 3, 1972, in Tampa, Florida, Bert Kreischer is the son of Al, a real estate attorney, and Gege, who worked in early childhood development. He attended Jesuit High School and, upon graduation, enrolled at Florida State University, joining the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and pursuing a major in English. During his sixth year at FSU, it was ranked by “The Princeton Review” as the top “party school” in America for 1997, and Kreischer was later named by “Rolling Stone” magazine as “the top partyer at the Number One Party School in the country,” which led to a six-page feature article titled “Bert Kreischer: The Undergraduate.” This article attracted the attention of director Oliver Stone, who optioned Bert’s story rights, prompting several writers to submit scripts to him. When that deal did not proceed, one writer adapted Kreischer’s character into “Van Wilder,” selling it to National Lampoon. Bert’s journey into stand-up comedy began at Potbelly’s, a bar/nightclub in Tallahassee, where he performed his first set.
